30th December, 2022 - Online session with an expert on how to start a research paper, basic information about various softwares that can be used while writing research papers, and finding quality journals
Objective: To help students know more about writing a research paper and how it is helpful in their careers. Another main objective was to give an in depth knowledge of academic writing to all students.

A national level online workshop on “Academic Writing” was organised by Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women in collaboration with the Bhopal School of Social Sciences, MP under the aegis of the Skill Development Committee. Dr. Neeraj Kumar, Deputy Librarian, A. C. Joshi Library, Panjab University was invited to share his valuable insights as a resource person. The various topics covered in the workshop were: how to start a research paper, how to find suitable quality journals, various online tools that can be helpful while writing a research paper and Plagiarism checker. Dr. Neeraj Kumar, having a vast experience and having written over forty research papers himself shared in depth knowledge relating to the above mentioned topics and covered various other aspects of academic writing as well. He conducted the session in a very simple and a clear manner, and addressed all the queries of the students at the end of the session.
The session saw enthusiastic participation by all students. The resource person shared various important software namely Endnote, Mendley, Latex available free of cost online which can be used for formatting, language editing and managing references. He told the participants how to avoid plagiarism while writing a research article with the help of para-phrasing ad in-text citation. He mentioned the importance of a covering letter at the time of submission of the research paper for publication. He also shared important websites to find quality journals as per the objectives of the manuscript. The session was overall very informative and helpful for all the students, research scholars and faculty members.
The session got an overwhelming response from the participants. A very positive feedback was received by the organizers by the end of the session. The participants also demanded that more such workshops be organized in the near future.
