Nabard Umang 2022

22nd October, 2022 - Nabard organized Umang 2K22, which was a nine-day exhibition cum sale between 14th – 22nd October 2022 at Bhopal Haat. Nabard had invited Farmer Product Organizations (FPO) and Self-Help Groups (SHG) from 26 states, and about 80 stalls were made available for them to sale and exhibit their products. The range of products exhibited were of handicraft, metal art, food, toys, bags, apparels and many similar products. In the evening time cultural activities were organized, which helped in attracting crows toward the exhibition. On the fourth day of the event BSSS RHYTHM also performed at the event, as every day was assigned to different music and art groups to perform at the event.

The students of the BSSS college were volunteering and assisting the officials of Nabard in organizing the event. In respect of the association between Nabard and the BSSS college, one stall space was allotted to the college. It was decided by our principal Dr. Fr. John P.J. that the college will give this opportunity to start-ups of our college students and the BSSS Incubation Centre was asked to take the lead. Nine students and alumni were given the opportunity, with some of them exhibiting for more than one day. For most of the event, stall was allotted to more than one person, such that one can avail maximum opportunity to connect with the market. Home automation device, roasted snacks, art work, home décor, diyas, resin products, greeting cards and chocolates were the products exhibited by the BSSS start-ups in the nine day event. Almost everyone made decent sales at the event and connected with the visitors for testing the market viability of their ideas and products. Some student members of the BSSS Incubation Centre also volunteered the BSSS college stall space and assist the start-ups.

Students also interacted with other participants of the exhibition who had visited from various parts of India and exhibiting their products, through which they got an opportunity to learn various entrepreneurial aspects such as their products, market, opportunities and problems.

The learning outcome of the students who participated in the event by exhibiting their products, testing market viability and interacting with other participants of the exhibition are:

  1. Market opportunities and product reach
  2. Feedback of their products from customers, which will help them in planning the product as per the market requirement.
  3. Difference in product prices when sold by direct manufacturers and middlemen
  4. Supports from Government through NABARD and other departments
  5. FPOs & SHGs getting trained by the Nabard to explore offshore market
  6. Problems faced by the FPOs and SHGs in their operations.
  7. Entrepreneurship with their passion for art.
