ABOUT BHOPAL ( THE CITY OF LAKES )

Bhopal, the city of lakes, is the second largest city of Madhya Pradesh, founded by the ERSTWHILE Parmara Ruler King Bhoj. It is a fascinating amalgam of scenic beauty, historic city and modern urban planning. Bhopal, today presents a multi faceted profile; the old city with its teeming market places and fine old mosque and palaces still bear the aristocratic imprint
of its former rulers; among them the succession of powerful Begums who ruled Bhopal from 1819 to 1926. Equally impressive is the new city with its verdant exquisitely laid out parks and gardens, broad avenues and streamlined modern edifices.

The city of lakes is surrounded by beautiful forests from all the sides. Three wild life sanctuaries viz. Singhori, Ratapani, Narasingarh around Bhopal and one national park right in the centre of the city provide a good abode for wild flora and fauna.

Bhopal is connected by Road, Rail and Air from various parts of our country. Apart from the long distance sources by road, there are many services to nearby places within the state. Bhopal Railway Station is a major railway station. It is connected by rail to all parts of the country being on the main north- south line of the country. More than 150 daily trains
have stoppages in Bhopal. Habibganj Railway Station is another most developed and major station of Bhopal. Bhopal has an International Airport named Raja Bhoj with all modern amenities that connects it directly to Delhi, Mumbai, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Ahmedbad, Raipur, Hyderabad and many major cities of India.

Bhopal historic city is divided as Old Bhopal and New Bhopal. Bhopal is one of the greenest cities of India. It has wide clean well lit roads lined with fairy tall gulmohar trees. Bhopal is known for its exquisite manners and high culture. To this day, shairis and poetry recitals are as popular in Bhopal as in movies. Typical Bhopalis residing in the Old city are known for
their nafasat, Bhopal is a growing city of India with educated manpower with technological and English language skills in abundance. The place is known far and wide for its four things- Parda, Zarda, Garda and Namarda. - i.e. Veil, a betel leaf preparation, Dust and Eunuchs. Bharat Bhavan one of the main cultural centres of India is located in Bhopal. The city definitely mesmerizes the visitors with its charm and culture. One visiting this city is bound to come here again and again.
