About the Conference
The One-Day Conference on Shaping the Future of Ageing: Challenges, Solutions, and Opportunities in an Ageing World, jointly organized by The Department of Social Work, The Bhopal School of Social Sciences, and Madhya Pradesh Rajya NITI Aayog (MPRNA), will take place on April 3, 2025, in a hybrid mode. This conference aims to address the pressing concerns of India’s rapidly growing elderly population, which stood at 149 million in 2022 (10.5% of the total population) and is projected to double to 347 million by 2050. As part of the United Nations Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021-2030), this initiative seeks to bring together governments, civil society, international organizations, professionals, academia, media, and the private sector to formulate sustainable strategies for enhancing the lives of older individuals and fostering community well-being. The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed significant gaps in healthcare, policies, and social services, underscoring the urgent need for collaborative, multi-sector interventions. With over 1 billion people worldwide aged 60 or older, many of whom reside in low- and middle-income countries, the necessity of ensuring equitable access to essential resources and social participation has never been greater. This conference will focus on integrated solutions for age-friendly urban development, resilient healthcare systems, technological innovations, and social empowerment, addressing key themes such as health and well-being, economic sustainability, ageing workforce participation, social inclusion, intergenerational engagement, mental health, cognitive care, policy governance, and the silver economy. By fostering knowledge-sharing, partnerships, and actionable strategies, this event aims to build a more inclusive and supportive society for ageing populations, ensuring dignity, security, and active participation in social and economic life.
