Workshop on Prevention and Prohibition of Sexual Harassment in the Workplace at NABARD Bhopal

A Workshop on "Prevention and Prohibition of Sexual Harassment in the Workplace" was conducted at national Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD, Bhopal) by two faculty members of BSSS - Sheena Thomas and Dr Ahmed Sameer. The workshop was conducted in five sessions covering all employees at NABARD, with each session consisting of two talks on sexual harassment. First was on understanding the phenomenon of Sexual Harassment by Dr Ahmed Sameer. This talk focused on antecedents to generate ideas aimed at prevention of occurrence of sexual harassment at the workplace. Many aspects that possibly contribute to occurrence of sexual harassment power-dominance, objectification, organisational factors as well as victim related factors were highlighted. Second talk, by Ms Sheena Thomas, focused on the legal remedies available in India. The highlight of the talk was use of case studies to demonstrate the working of an internal complaints committee on sexual harassment.
