The department of Computer Science and Application was stared in the academic year 1999 with the introduction of BCA course affiliated to Barkatullah University, Bhopal. PGDCA course was started in 2013 and M.Sc (Computer Science) in 2014. The department has well equipped three computer labs and ICT enabled classrooms, as well as qualified and experienced faculty members to cater to the requirements of the students. The department also runs a very active student’s club named “Cyber Club” which organizes co-curricular and extra-curricular activities for bringing out the hidden talents of students.
The UG and PG programmes run by the department are oriented towards building a brilliant career in Information Technology. The programmes focused on building application-based skills which include the creative and logical thinking skills. Students will also be updated of industry best software practices and placement assistance.
Department conduct hackathons, and other co-curricular events to develop students’ leadership skills. In addition, there are various clubs within the institute where students may organise and participate in creative activities. Graduates will be qualified for roles such as Software Developer, Business Manager Development, Software Quality Analyst, Data Scientist, Software Developer, Software Engineer, Software Validation Engineer, Software Test Engineer, Software Configuration Manager and many more.

BSSS Journal of Computer is an online Journal published since 2009 with ISSN: 0975-7228. It is a Double Blind Peer Reviewed Open Access Journal which is Indexed through DOI, Cross Ref and Copyright Licensing under Creative Commons (CC).
It is a Bi-annual Departmental e-Magazine to empower the Faculty and Students to be creative and productive, thereby providing them a platform to showcase knowledge about the new technologies. It also gives glimpses of the various activities carried out in the department in an academic session and showcase student and faculty achievements.

The Cyber Club, under the guidance of the Department of Computer Applications, held an Online Poster Design Competition from September 15 to September 18, 2023. This event was organized to mark Engineers Day and to highlight the crucial role of technology in our daily lives.The competition saw a gathering of creative talents who showcased their artistic skills, effectively illustrating the integration of technology into our everyday lives. A total of 27 participants, including 15 boys and 12 girls, submitted their entries for this event.

Brief Report: On October 5, 2023, the Cyber Club of The Bhopal School of Social Sciences held a session on cyber hazards for 1st and 3rd semester students. The seminar was conducted by Mr. Mahesh Shrivastava, a professional with 14 years of experience in areas like ethical hacking, cyber forensics, and cybersecurity. The session focused on the basics of cybersecurity and potential career paths in the field. The event, attended by 121 students (64 boys and 57 girls), was a success.

On October 31, 2023, the Cyber Club celebrated National Unity Day. The event aimed to raise awareness about national unity, foster creativity, and engage students in nation-building. A skit on National Unity was performed by BSW and MSW students. A new webpage for Dev-Aahaaram was launched on the college’s website, providing information about the initiative and how to contribute. An SMS birthday wish system was also introduced, allowing contributions to Dev-Aahaaram on birthdays.

On World Computer Literacy Day, the Cyber Club embarked on a youth-led initiative by visiting the Shiv Nagar Learning Centre, a local school. The club members initiated the session with a discussion on computers to assess the students' existing knowledge. Covering basic computer concepts, the members, who were knowledgeable and patient, taught with enthusiasm. The students actively participated in discussions and hands-on activities, demonstrating their eagerness to learn more about computers. This event not only fostered academic growth but also strengthened community ties. It proved to be a mutually beneficial experience for the 41 students and 9 volunteers involved.

The Cyber Club organized an article writing contest for BSSS students from Jan 21-31, 2024. Coordinated by Ms. Shilpa Jackson under the guidance of Mr. Ashish Jain and Ms. Swati Sharma, the competition offered various tech topics for students to explore. A total of 30 articles were submitted which were assessed by the faculty. The winners were Tanishka Bansal (1st), Naina Bundela (2nd), and Rishita Patel (3rd). The event fostered creative writing and research in technology among students.

Cyber Club, in collaboration with Robonauts India, held an awareness session on ‘Drones, IoT, and Robotics’ on Feb 27, 2024. Mr. Mohit Vishwakarma, the resource person, provided an overview of these technologies. The session covered drone fundamentals, IoT architecture, robotic applications, and prospects. He also discussed career opportunities and internships at Robonauts. The Techkriti-Robonauts collaboration was highlighted, offering expert lectures to enhance students’ skills. The Q&A session provided practical insights into these technologies. The event was attended by 49 students (24 girls and 25 boys).
