An Overview
The Department of Psychology at BSSS aspires to provide a platform where students can express themselves with self confidence based on sound knowledge of the subject. The department has threefold goals- to encourage, promote and build understanding of psychology throughout the student body and the faculty members.
The inception and foundation of the Department of Psychology are to set up high benchmarks of ethics as a student of human behavior. The subject Psychology was introduced at BSSS during its inception year in 1972.
The Psychology club~ Psycosmos came into action in the session 2021-2022 to provide students with a platform to show their talents and perspectives on mental health issues. Students who are post holders as well as members take initiative in planning and organizing several activities conducted at the departmental level.
The Psychology lab in the department is equipped with the latest tools and equipment to enhance the practical knowledge and skills of the students in administering and interpreting the various tests and experiments. The students are encouraged to conduct behavior analysis tests on self, other individuals as well as groups.
The distinct feature of the department is the counseling cell which has been fully functional since 1997. Dr Vinay Mishra, the Head of the Department, is a trained counselor with more than 3 decades of teaching experience at BSSS. This best practice of the department was established for the students and staff of BSSS. The purpose was to ensure that the counsellors attempt to assist the students and staff in achieving optimum educational, personal, social development and adjustment in college and beyond. Occasionally, parents of students are also counselled on issues of relevance. Complete confidentiality is maintained by the staff of the department.
A distinct feature of the department is the Internship Program for graduate, post-graduate and diploma students. This is spread to institutions within the city of Bhopal and beyond. These institutions are selected on the basis of career choices of the students.
Additionally, students are encouraged to do independent research under the supervision of the staff. At times, these research projects are sponsored by the college.
Several students have published papers in Journals of repute. Also, the department takes pride in several students clearing the UPSC- NET exam while still in their final semester of post graduation in psychology.

The Department of Psychology is committed to provide excellence in its Undergraduate, Post Graduate, Certificate, and Diploma Programme. The Department aspires to scale heights in areas of education and related fields, and be at the cutting edge of scientific research, development and teaching in Psychology over the course of years.

The department launched its first ever magazine titled “MIND-FULL” in the session 2021-22. It aims at bring out literary and artistic talents of the students.
