The Research Cell of Bhopal School of Social Sciences is well-equipped. It complements the Institute with its efforts and assistance towards development and sustainability. The cell serves all the purposes of researchers and scholars whether academic or social, with alignment of institutional interest.
BOOKS
Research Cell is having 492 books in its reading room. Additionally, 6000+ titles are available in the form of e-books through INFLIBNET and DELNET subscriptions. The titles available in the reading room are mostly related to various stages of research. There are special series on data collection, statistical software, mathematical methods and ethics. Titles available online span a wide range of subjects and form a suitable ground for beginning a literature survey.
Online Subscriptions: BSSS has subscriptions to two major online library networks: INFLIBNET and DELNET
INFLIBNET Centre (Information and Library Network Centre) is an autonomous Inter-University Centre of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India located in the campus of Gujarat University, Ahmedabad. The centre was initially started as a national project in 1991. It became an independent Inter-University Centre in June 1996. INFLIBNET provides access to various eBooks and journals of academic repute through n-list.
DELNET was started at, The India International Centre Library in January 1988 and was registered as a society in 1992. It was initially supported by the National Information System for Science and Technology (NISSAT), Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India. It was subsequently supported by the National Informatics Centre, Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India and the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
SOFTWARE
IBM - SPSS Statistics: BSSS has a 10 user academic license for the immensely popular statistical software IBM SPSS. It is available in the training room of the Research Cell.
Researchers interested in analyzing data using this have the option of either booking a system or doing it on their own; they may even request the Research Committee to do it for them.
R Statistical Software: R is open-source programming software tailor-made for performing statistical analysis as well as computational modeling. Research Cell has 5 systems equipped with R along with its associated GUI-cum-editor R Studio. Research Cell provides training for those interested in learning statistics through R.
OCTAVE: GNU Octave is open-source software featuring a high-level programming language, primarily intended for numerical computations. Octave helps in solving linear and nonlinear problems numerically, and performing other numerical experiments using a language that is mostly compatible with MATLAB. Currently research cell has Octave installed in one of the system in the training room.
JASP: JASP is open-source software. It is much like SPSS. However, it has the distinction of being the only software till date which allows performing Bayesian Statistics using GUI. JASP is a software under-development and is very easy to learn. It would be a great add-on to teach students along with statistics.
Training facilities for JASP are available.
PLAGIARISM-DETECTOR: BSSS has a single academic license for the anti-plagiarism software Plagiarism-detector. It provides an easy inter-face for checking documents in various formats such as .docx, .pdf etc. It is ideal for checking research papers but may also be used for evaluation of assignments done by students.
INFRASTRUCTURE
The Research Cell is equipped with ten computers, an over-head projector and a reading room. These facilities make it an ideal place for conducting training sessions/classes or for engaging in literature review. The relaxed atmosphere provides a suitable ambience for deeper thought and reflection.
