The Department of Science at The Bhopal School of Social Sciences (BSSS) celebrated National Science Week 2026 with a series of insightful expert lectures aimed at nurturing scientific temper, promoting inclusivity, and encouraging learning beyond classroom boundaries. The programmes were catalysed and financially supported by the Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology (MPCST), Bhopal.
The week commenced with an expert lecture titled “Breaking Barriers, Building a Nation: Women in Indian Science and Technology,” delivered by Dr. Pallavi Choubey, Quality Control Officer, Central Semen Station, Bhopal. In her address, Dr. Choubey highlighted the remarkable contributions of women scientists in India and discussed the challenges they face in scientific careers. She emphasized the vital role of women in national development through science and technology and encouraged students, particularly young women, to pursue careers in scientific fields with confidence and determination. The session served as a powerful reminder of the importance of gender inclusivity in advancing scientific progress.
Continuing the celebrations, the Department organized another expert lecture on 27 February 2026 on the theme “Science Beyond Syllabus: What They Don’t Teach in the Classroom,” marking National Science Day. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Ishu Saraogi, Professor at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Bhopal.
In her thought-provoking presentation, Dr. Saraogi emphasized that science education should extend beyond textbook knowledge and examination patterns. She highlighted the importance of curiosity-driven learning, critical thinking, ethical research practices, interdisciplinary collaboration, and effective scientific communication. She elaborated on essential elements of scientific growth such as research methodology, innovation, data interpretation, and adaptability in the face of emerging global challenges. Encouraging students to actively participate in research projects, internships, workshops, and academic discussions, she stressed that experimentation and failure are integral to the scientific process and personal growth.
Both sessions witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members, making the interactions intellectually stimulating and engaging. The lectures significantly contributed to broadening students’ scientific outlook and inspired them to perceive science as a dynamic, lifelong pursuit rather than merely an academic requirement.
Through these initiatives, BSSS reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a culture of inquiry, innovation, and inclusive excellence during National Science Week 2026.
