Department of Social Work participated in a discourse which was arranged by Madhya Pradesh Samaj Seva Sanstha ( A pan MP coordinating body of all the nine diiceson organization's working for communities at grassroots across the state) yesterday. After the speech of chief guest Dr. Prabhakar Tiwari ( CMHO, BHOPAL), head of the department-Social Work Dr. Rutwik Gandhe emphasized on paradigm shift required to design & implement the syllabus of professional education across the streams including 'social work'. The Department of Social Work at BSSS differentiates between commercial and service oriented social work yet believes that for creation of a responsible society & citizenship- which is backbone of nation building-, both are required for strengthening social work as a profession. Voluntary initiatives from student youth is necessity and it distinguishes BSSS from other institutions. New Education Policy provides ample scope to work for and with communities so that learning of students can be enriched. Whether management or social work, syllabus should be sensitive towards learning from collective understandings of the communities. BSSS provides ample opportunities of volunteering which is an essential aspect of building professionalism therefore collaboration with all the nine diocesan agencies is must for community engagement of students, he stressed.
