BSSS Educational Field Trip to Khari Village

Host families warmly welcomed the student
The Department of Commerce, under the patronage of The Bhopal School of Social Sciences, organized a one-day educational excursion to Khari Village, renowned for its Community-Based and Rural Tourism, on August 10th. This trip was not just a visit, but an opportunity for all Tourism students to actively engage and learn. The trip offered a deep understanding of rural life, cultural traditions, cuisine, agriculture, wildlife, and sustainable practices, complementing classroom learning with real-world experiences.

Upon arrival, we received a traditional welcome from the Khari Gram Paryatan Samiti with tilak and flowers, accompanied by warm hospitality and shared knowledge. The group was led by Dr Sushma Tirkey and Dr Amrita Sahu, tour guides Ms. Drashti Saxena and Mr.Tabrej Khan, and local village guides who facilitated various activities.

The trip highlights included a visit to the ancient Mata Mahal temple, a trek through "Brahma - The Mystical Trap," bird watching, waterfall exploration, rock shelter painting, and a Bullock cart ride. The students also participated in a live Bundeli Tribal Dance and Bhajan Mandliperformance.

Host families warmly welcomed the students and faculty during the visit, offering homemade delicacies. The aroma of fresh, locally sourced ingredients filled the air as students learned about traditional culinary practices passed down through generations. They had the chance to taste and explore the traditional cuisine of Khari Village, which deepened their appreciation for the connection between the land and food. The experience provided unique insights into cultural identity, sustainability, and the role of food in fostering community bonds.

The trip also included hands-on experiences such as pottery making and observing basket and carpet weaving. Under the guidance of local artisans, students practiced pottery, facilitating a cultural exchange that enhanced the educational value of the trip.

Homestays were a key component of the experience, allowing students to live with local families and gain unique insights into rural life. This immersive experience not only provided a glimpse into the daily lives of the villagers but also fostered a deep appreciation for their culture and traditions. Students praised the homestay concept for bridging the gap between urban and rural life, providing a well-rounded educational experience. They emphasized that such initiatives not only enhance academic learning but also foster empathy, cultural awareness, and personal growth.

The excitement peaked during a wildlife exploration led by local wildlife expert MrChoupeshChoulesh. The area, known for its rich biodiversity and protected wildlife corridor, is home to several species, including the Bengal tiger. The guide shared insights into tiger behavior and habitat, teaching students to identify signs of a tiger's presence, such as pug marks and claw marks. The trek's highlight was encountering fresh pugmarks, indicating a recent tiger presence. Under the guidance of a wildlife tourist guide and local filmmakers, students also learned the basics of wildlife photography, videography, and documentary storytelling.
