BSSS Hosts Thought-Provoking Turncoat Debate on World Entrepreneurship Day

On the occasion of World Entrepreneurship Day, The Bhopal School of Social Sciences organized a dynamic and intellectually stimulating debate, aptly named "Turncoat." This event was a highlight of the college calendar, attracting keen participation from students eager to showcase their oratory and critical thinking skills.
Organized under the guidance of Dr. Arti Mudaliar, with the support of the Commerce Department Head, Dr. Ashish Dilraj, the event was a resounding success. The debate provided a platform for students to explore both sides of key entrepreneurial topics, enhancing their critical thinking and public speaking skills, and reflected the college's commitment to fostering entrepreneurial spirit among students. The judge of the event was CS Natasha Gogia, a practicing Company Secretary since 2017 at N. Gogia and Associates, who brought valuable industry insights to the occasion. Participants were tasked with the challenging role of debating both for and against the motion on various topics related to entrepreneurship. The topics included: Dedication and patience are the keys to successful entrepreneurship, Women are better entrepreneurs, B-Schools should aim at creating more entrepreneurs than managers., Self-employment is more stimulating than working for a large organization and Programs like Shark Tank are a marketing gimmick.

Several thought-provoking questions were posed by the audience and participants like, "Women are better entrepreneurs." But the top 10 richest people in the world are all men. How do you justify this? As mentioned in the speech, women have to handle both household chores and their business. Why don't men face the same issue?*: If dedication and patience are key enough to success, then why are 90% of startups failing in India after the first five years? Adding depth to the discussions.

The winner of the debate was Monis Kabeer Khan of B. Com (Honors), 7th Semester, 2nd Prize was achieved by SoumyaPatwa of BA Economics, 3rd Semester, and 3rd position was secured by Zainub Owais Khan of BA Psychology, 1st Semester. The Turncoat debate highlighted the students' debating prowess and underscored the importance of critical thinking in understanding complex issues related to entrepreneurship.
