The department of social work has donated 100 blankets to Bhopal Municipal Corporation ( BMC) as a goodwill gesture yesterday. Mayor of the city Ms Malti Rai appreciated the drive and expressed her wish to collaborate more with the department in future.
The Department of Social Work had launched Blanket Donation Drive (BDD), on December 20, 2023 at 8 pm in the evening. 600 blankets were purchased for that from the contributions of staff, faculty, students and alumni of the college. A fund raising campaign was launched to support this drive within the college by the Department of Social Work. In five days of time the social work department mobilised more than Rs 55000 and more than 55 blankets in physical form. During the nights of December 20 & 21, between 10 pm to 02 am in the morning, blankets were distributed to real destitute and needy on streets of Bhopal City. More than 375 blankets were given away to those who required them most. To identify real needy people a team from social work department faculty members roamed on the streets of Bhopal on December 19, 2023 during the same time i.e. 10 pm to 02 am in the morning.
Some humanitarian organisations and Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) will also be approached for institutional donations on their request. HoD Dr. Rutwik Gandhe informed that with days of distribution on road distribution distribution culminated yesterday and institutional donations would only take place now.
Volunteers from Youth For Seva, Manthan Foundation and PAL Society were on roads with departmental staff to distribute blankets.
Principal Dr. Fr. John PJ said such service with sacrifice is the real service to the GOD almighty.
