To mark the celebration of the 136thBirth Anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan, the Faculty of Science organized a series of events from 08-10 January 2024. The three-day celebration started with a Mathematical Quiz competition followed by three expert sessions on “The Role of Mathematics Learning in Interdisciplinary Research, a Hands-on Practice Session on Fundamentals of MATLAB, Tips and tricks of Mathematics for Competitive Examinations”, and Mathematical Puzzle Solving, Poster (Traditional and Digital) Making competition, Documentary on Biography and Contributions of S. Ramanujan in the field of Mathematics. The events were conducted both in blended mode with the objectives to bring awareness in the youth about the Applications of Mathematics, to highlight the achievements and discoveries of Indian Mathematicians, and to discuss techniques to solve, enhance accuracy, and expedite calculation for competitive exams. In these activities, more than 100 students participated and 30 students were awarded in the valedictory ceremony for their exceptional performance on 11 January 2024.
Principal, Fr. John P.J. congratulated the coordinators for the successful celebration of the National Mathematics Day on the theme “Mathematics for Everyone”. The head of the Department Dr. Vandana Yadav focussed on the Importance of Mathematics in student’s life and she motivated students to an interdisciplinary approach which is the need of the hour for Research and Development.
The program was coordinated and executed by Dr. Jerolina Fernandez and Dr. Poornima Tiwari. They stated that December 22 is observed as National Mathematics Day in India, commemorating the birth anniversary of the legendary Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan to emphasize the significance of Mathematics in our daily lives and encourage individuals to cultivate self-learning and reasoning skills.
