IGNIS, TRIUMPHS AGAIN WITH ITS INTER-COLLEGIATE DRAMA COMPETITIONS

LIGHTS! CAMERA! ACTION!

IGNIS – The BSSS Literary Society under the aegis of The Department of English successfully organized its inter-collegiate Solo and Group English Drama Competitions titled Lights! Camera! Action! on 16 March 2024 with a Gothic theme this time where the world of Gothic Literature steals the show.

The event commenced with a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the official start of the competitions by the Principal, Rev. Dr. Fr. John P.J., Vice Principal, Dr. Sr. Sonia Kurian, and Dean, Academics-Fr. Jomy Panithas. The Chief Guest of the event was Dr. M. Mohan Rao Retd IAS and the Guest of Honour was Mrs. Madhumita Naqvi, a prominent artist.

The beautiful art and photography exhibition titled “Galleria d’arte” featured stunning art and photography, captivating attendees with its beauty and creativity. The prayerful Lighting of Lamp was accompanied with the hymn Showers of Blessings. A special performance entitled Dark Designs of Satan was also performed. The English Gothic dance performances titled "The Phantom of the Opera” and “Paheliyan” stole the show with their dramatic flair. The musical band BSSS, Rhythm delivered a mesmerizing rock show with the theme "Gothic Golds," which left the audience spellbound. IGNIS also released its Poetry collection IGNIS Volume IV.

Dr. Prof. Seema Raizada from the Department of English, MLB Girls College and Prof. Vineeta Dhondiyal Bhatnagar, Department of English, RGPV served as the esteemed judges for both solo and group English drama competitions which included 6 and 4 performances respectively. Sage University clinched the group competition, securing a cash prize of Rs. 5000, along with an attractive trophy and certificates. The solo category was won by IEHE with a prize of Rs. 3000, accompanied by a trophy and certificates.

One of the highlights of the program was then Gothic Fashion Ramp Walk, which stole the spotlight and added an extra layer of excitement to the entire show witnessing more than 60 participants from different colleges of the city viz, SAGE, JLU, MLB, Women’s Polytechnic, LNCT, Oriental, IEHE etc. The winners of the Gothic Fashion Ramp Walk Competitions were Shoaib Kujur crowned as Mr. LCA and Priya Rajak honored as Ms. LCA. Ms. Himanshi Mansukhani was honored with the title of ‘Gothic Fashion Icon’, while Ms. Shubh Gohar was awarded the title of ‘Dark Elegance’. Ms. Veda Vashishta was bestowed with the prestigious title of ‘Face of the Crowd’.
