Students from The Bhopal School of Social Sciences attended the Green Hub Festival at Ravindra Bhavan, accompanied by Ms Avisha Peters and Ms Udita Singh from the Department of Psychology. The festival, which marks the culmination of the Green Hub Fellowship, featured films by fellows and emphasized the participation of Indigenous community members. The event began with an inspiring inauguration by Phuljhariya Bai Kevatiya, followed by a keynote address from Dr. Anish Andheria, President and CEO of the Wildlife Conservation Trust (WCT). Dr Andheria highlighted WCT's efforts to reduce cooking wood fire usage by 70% from 2020 to 2024, benefiting both tiger conservation and community wellbeing.
The festival showcased several short films, including "Urban Tigers" by Akash Aveney and Choulesh Chachne, highlighting the coexistence of tigers and humans in the City of Lakes. Other films included a behind-the-scenes look at wildlife filmmaking by Nishant Kapoor, a focus on the Baiga tribe by Shibali Vishwas, a biodiversity tour of Chamba in Himachal Pradesh by Zoo Reach, and an exploration of migration issues in Odisha by Vikalp Organization. A panel discussion on wildlife conservation challenges and solutions, moderated by Dr. Andheria, Subharanjan Sen, and L. Krishnamoorthy, was also a key highlight.
The Green Hub Festival provided students with valuable insights into wildlife, indigenous cultures, and wildlife filmmaking. The engaging sessions and knowledgeable speakers left a lasting impact, enhancing the student's understanding and appreciation of conservation efforts. The event also offered opportunities for networking and meaningful discussions with speakers and delegates.
