Anti-Ragging Week organized at BSSS College
Included poster making and slogan writing competition

Anti-Ragging Week was organized at BSSS College to raise awareness about the harmful effects of ragging and to promote a healthy and conducive environment. 695 students from various UG streams attended the session.

Dr Binoy Erical, in charge of the Anti-Ragging Committee, briefed the students about the Anti-Ragging Cell and said that it aims to provide a safe environment in the college by maintaining a strong mutual bond between teachers, students and management. Dr Erical discussed the possible consequences of participating in ragging and highlighted the support systems available in the college. The students were also explained in detail about the various help desks and anti-ragging complaint mechanisms in case of any complaints regarding ragging.

To increase awareness about anti-ragging, Dr. Vinay Mishra, Professor, Department of Psychology in association with Psychosmos Club presented a touching play on anti-ragging, highlighting that the practical meaning of 'ragging' is teasing. The play covered common misconceptions related to ragging. Through the play, students were also informed that 50% of mental, behavioral, and psychological problems start during adolescence and ragging is one of the strong reasons that affect the mental health of students, and the victimized youth undergo depression, low self-esteem, and intense fear. The play concluded with Dr. Mishra taking an oath from the students that they would neither indulge in any kind of ragging nor tolerate it. The students were also shown an anti-ragging video uploaded on the UGC website.

Dr. Fr. John P.J., Principal, BSSS told the students present that the Anti Ragging Cell aims to provide a safe, peaceful, and conducive learning environment to the students. Ragging has been strictly prohibited in the college for a long time and strict action will be taken against students involved in any incident of ragging. The week-long activities from 12.8.2024 to 18.8.2024 included poster-making and slogan-writing competitions for students on the theme of anti-ragging which many participants attended.
