The Bhopal School of Social Sciences successfully hosted the Symposium on Stories Untold, which was organized by the Department of Psychology and sponsored by the Family Planning Association of India (FPAI). The event brought together a diverse audience to engage in meaningful conversations on LGBTQIA+ sensitivity, fostering greater awareness and inclusivity within society.
In his address, Principal Dr. Father John P.J. emphasized the significance of embracing diversity and fostering an inclusive environment where every individual is respected and valued. He acknowledged the efforts of the Department of Psychology and FPAI in organizing an event that not only educated but also encouraged open dialogue and understanding.
The symposium featured thought-provoking discussions from esteemed speakers, including activists, a queer affirmative therapist, and individuals from the queer community themselves, who provided deep insights into various aspects of the LGBTQIA+ experience. Mr. Harikeerthan shed light on the challenges faced by the community and the importance of recognition. Ms. Akanksha Shukla spoke about the rights and experiences of LGBTQIA+ individuals, while Mr. Venu Pillai addressed the negative stigmas and stereotypes that persist in society. Ms. Manjari Upmanyu highlighted Queer Affirmative Practices and the ways in which societal norms continue to be shaped by heteronormativity. Mr. Parth Sharma underscored the role of education in nurturing inclusivity, while Ms. Pammi, a transwoman, shared her inspiring journey, illustrating the resilience of the LGBTQIA+ community.
