Day-long National Webinar sponsored by the National Commission for Women, New Delhi, on Acid Attack held at BSSS. A new form of gender based violence was organised by BSSS IQAC with the Women Cell and Department of Social Work.
Five sessions on various aspects of acid attack were detailed by the resource persons. Dr. Geeta Bala Krishnan, Former Principal, CSWNN explained about social implications of Acid Attack and scope of social work intervention. Dr. Chand Trehan explained the psychological implications of Acid Attacks and the importance of counselling.
He emphasised the need of youngsters to raise their voices against acid attacks. Dr. Bollineni Keerthi (President, Vasavya Mahila Mandali Andhra Pradesh) shared the importance of rehabilitation of acid attack survivors and suggestions on how can HEIs, NGOs can work with the local government to react to this menace and modes operandi to work. Advocate Enosh George emphasised the legal implications of Acid Attacks and also discussed the sufficiency of law to deal with this issue.
Ajay Patel, Founder and Managing Trustee of Red Bridge Trust, MP, shared stories of resilience. Sangeeta, an acid attack survivor, shared her story in the session. The participants were benefitted and learned about the acid attack in a comprehensive manner and became aware of the legal provisions. The working of the different organisations in this area was also discussed. The participants were inspired to tackle such a henious act. Dr. Fr. John P.J. shared that it is pertinent to discuss a topic like this.
